Wickenburg, Arizona Wickenburg is often called Arizona's most Western community and had once been dubbed the Dude Ranch Capital. It is located only 54 miles away from Phoenix. Wickenburg sits on the northern edge of the Sonoran Desert, just below the Northern Arizona's mountains.
The first inhabitants of the area were the Western Yavapai Indians who for many centuries lived along the banks of the Hassayampa River. In the early 1820's hunters and trappers came looking for beavers whose pelts could be sold to hat makers. The reports from the trappers created interest in the West. Many adventurers would follow and in 1862 a gold strike prompted miners and prospectors to begin searching all throughout the area for gold and minerals that would make them rich.
Modern day Wickenburg boasts over 600 businesses which provide a full range of services, shopping, and galleries for locals and tourists alike. The Town sill holds tightly the traditions which formed it's character. Annual events such as Gold Rush Days in February, the famous Desert Caballeros Ride, Cowboy Christmas Poetry Celebration in December and the Four-Corners Bluegrass Festival each November keep the spirit of the early settlers in the hearts of the residents.
